Enrollment Periods
Understanding when you can enroll or make changes to your Health and Welfare Benefit
Plans is an important part of managing your coverage. Adding or changing your benefits
can be done during the following enrollment windows.
- Initial Enrollment: New employees and current employees who become newly eligible must enroll in their benefits within 30 days of their hire date or eligibility date. During this period, employees can elect medical, dental, vision, FSAs, HSAs, life insurance, disability, and voluntary benefits.
- Open Enrollment: Employees may change their benefits only during the annual Open Enrollment Period (see Qualifing Life Events for acceptable mid-year changes). Open enrollment is typically held for a two week period in late April through the first week of May. Enrollments made during this period take effect July 1, the start of the plan year.
- Qualifying Life Events: Employees may only change their benefit elections if they experience a qualifying life event (marriage, birth/adoption, loss of coverage, etc.). Changes must be submitted in Workday, and documentation is required.
- 403(b) Retirement Plan Enrollment: The Retirement Savings Plan, unlike Health & Welfare benefits, can be changed anytime during the year. Employees may enroll in the 403(b) plan, change their contributions and update their investment allocations at any time during the year, there is no restricted enrollment period. However, new hires and newly eligible employees will not be eligible for Loyola's Match until their required waiting period is satisfied. Visit the retirement plan page for details.

Health Savings Account (HSA)
Employees enrolled in the Cigna HDHP may contribute to an HSA for current or future
medical expenses. HSAs offer triple tax advantages: pre‑tax contributions, tax‑free
growth, and tax‑free withdrawals for qualified expenses. Bank of America is the administrator.
Dental Insurance
Loyola's dental insurance offers comprehensive dental coverage through the MetLife
Preferred Dental Program (PDP), with two plan options designed to meet different needs:
a Copay Plan and a PPO Plan. Both plans provide access to MetLife’s nationwide PDP
Plus network and can be used on a pre‑tax basis. Coverage levels include Employee,
Two‑Party, and Family.
Vision Insurance
Loyola's vision plan offers coverage through VSP (Mid‑Atlantic Vision Service Plan),
with two plan levels designed to meet different needs: an Exam‑Only Plan and a Buy-Up
Plan. Both plans provide access to VSP’s national network of eye doctors and help
reduce the cost of routine eye care.
- Exam Only is an employer paid plan that provides an annual eye exam with a low copay. This plan is best for employees who want coverage for routine eye exams but do not need glasses or contacts. This is an employee only coverage plan.
- Buy Up Plan offers comprehensive vision services such as the annual eye exam with a low copay, coverage for lenses and frames, including defined allowances. Contact lens benefits (in lieu of glasses, subject to plan rules), and access to additional VSP benefits, such as lens enhancements and discounts. This option is ideal for employees and/or dependents who regularly need glasses or contacts and want broader, more predictable vision coverage.
Cigna Voluntary Benefits
Loyola offers optional supplemental insurance provided through Cigna to enhance financial
protection. These plans are stand-alone and do not require enrollment in any of the
Cigna medical plans.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Employees may enroll in the Health Care FSA and Dependent Care FSA to pay for eligible
medical and daycare expenses. The FSAs allow employees to make pre-tax payroll deductions
to pay for eligible expenses. The FSAs do not rollover each plan year. Enrollment
must be renewed each year during Open Enrollment. This plan is administered through
Optum Financial.
403(B) Tax Deferred Retirement Savings Plan
The 403(B) allows full-time and part-time employees to make pre-tax payroll deductions
to a tax-deferred retirement account through TIAA. However, to be eligible for the
employer match, employees must satisfy the one-year waiting period and 1,000 hour
service requirement.
Tuition Remission Program
Loyola’s tuition remission program allows eligible employees, spouses, and dependent
children to take courses at reduced or no cost. The first step for anyone using the
benefit is applying for admission to Loyola, since remission only applies after acceptance. Only
dependent children may participate in Tuition Exchange and FACHEX, and these programs
apply to undergraduate study only, dependent children are not eligible for graduate‑level
tuition remission.
Child Care Voucher Program
The program provides financial assistance to eligible employees to help offset the
cost of work‑related childcare. The payment is based on a set fee schedule based on
the child's age. Dependent children age 13 and older are not eligible.
