Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I have to complete the Vector Solutions modules?
- Loyola is committed to maximizing all students’ awareness, health, and safety while they are in college by providing students with the information and tools from which they will benefit as they learn about, address, and combat today’s most critical concerns, as they pertain to alcohol and other drugs. Dangerous drinking and other substance use is a public health problem that affects every college campus in the country. We understand that many Loyola students choose not to drink or use other drugs, but they may still be exposed to risky substance use situations in college. AlcoholEdu promotes community safety by teaching students skills for responding to dangerous situations they may encounter in college.
- Loyola’s commitment to diversity includes but is not limited to race, ethnicity, country of origin, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion and spiritual beliefs, socioeconomic status and abilities. Although Loyola continues too make great strides toward creating a culture that values, respects, and welcomes students, faculty, administrators, staff, families, and friends, we are always seeking ways to foster an inclusive culture. Vector Solutions' Diversity and Inclusion and training helps students learn about key concepts related to identity, bias, power, privilege and oppression, understand the benefits of being part of a diverse community, and develop skills related to ally behavior, self-care, and creating inclusive spaces.
Do I have to complete all of the modules in one sitting?
No. You may take the course in multiple sittings. However, please make sure that you click on the “next” button after completing a section and before logging out of the program. If you do not progress to the next section before logging out, you will have to repeat the previous section.
I am a transfer student. Do I have to complete this program?
All incoming and transfer students are required to complete all four training modules (AlcoholEdu, Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention, Diversity Inclusion and Training for College Students, and Sexual Assault Prevention) at Loyola regardless of completion at another institution.
How do I access these programs?
- Login instructions and due dates will be sent to your Loyola email account in early July. The directions to log into the programs will be included in an email message.
- Select the appropriate group from the drop-down menu. You may log in and out of the course at the end of each section. Section ends are marked with a “NEXT” button. Do not log out until you click the “NEXT” button or you will have to repeat the section you have just gone through.
Note: The AlcoholEDU program includes 2 parts. Part 2 (only takes 5-10 minutes) will be available 30 days after part 1 is completed.
Why do I have to wait 30 days after part 1 to complete part 2 of AlcoholEDU?
The course is designed to assess your knowledge prior to taking the course. AlcoholEDU Part 2 checks your understanding after you have had time to process the material. This pre-and post-assessment format helps Loyola determine the effectiveness of the program.
Will someone remind me to complete part 2 of AlcoholEDU?
Yes. A reminder will be sent to your Loyola email account with instructions on how to access AlcoholEdu Part 2.
If I do not drink alcohol, do I still need to complete the AlcoholEDU part of the program?
Yes. Whether or not you drink, you will very likely encounter other students who drink or talk about drinking. The course provides information about coping with others’ drinking behavior, in addition to how to respond effectively in situations where others are at risk of alcohol-related harm (e.g., alcohol poisoning). AlcoholEDU provides personal pathways through the course based on what students already know about alcohol and their own drinking behaviors. If you do not drink, the material you receive will provide specific information tailored to your choice.
Will my responses be private?
Yes. All responses are confidential. Loyola will only receive information about the student body as a whole and will never see any individual student’s answers.
What happens if I do not complete all five modules?
A housing hold is placed on each student account until AlcoholEdu, Prescription Drug and Abuse Prevention, Diversity and Inclusion Training for College Students, and Sexual Assault Prevention are completed. Students who do not complete these trainings will not be able to move into their respective residence halls.
What if I experience technical issues with any of the programs?
