What is it?

The Peer Conduct Board (PCB) is focused on fostering a stronger community through an engaging and educational student conduct process. The board is made up of student leaders dedicated to educating students and promoting accountability in the context of our Jesuit values. 

What do they do?

The Peer Conduct Board is a conduct hearing body that meets regularly during the academic year hearing one to three cases for undergraduate students per week. It is comprised of three to five undergraduate students and one non-voting advisor, usually a Graduate Residence Coordinator. These students are selected and trained to hear student conduct cases. PCB will usually hear cases that involve violations that have an impact on the larger community in which students live, including, but not limited to quiet hours, roommate conflicts, vandalism, disorderly gatherings, and alcohol violations. PCB hears the case, decides on responsibility for the charges, and, if responsible, determines the best educational sanctions for the student.

Qualifications:

PCB members serve as peer educators, providing students with an opportunity for growth and reflection following the conduct process. A PCB member must have good judgment, strength of character, ability to challenge stereotypes, and sensitivity to and understanding of the needs all individuals. A PCB member must also:

  • Have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA), both cumulative and the semester prior to applying.
  • Maintain full time student status while in the position.
  • Maintain a clear disciplinary record and not be found responsible for any violation of the Code of Conduct while serving as a member of the board.

PCB Roles and Responsibilities

All members of the Loyola University Peer Conduct Board shall assume the following responsibilities and meet the following expectations:

  • Serve as a role model and abide by all policies of Loyola University. Being found responsible for a violation of the Code of Conduct may result in removal or suspension from membership on the Peer Conduct Board.
  • Be familiar with the Community Standards of Loyola University.
  • Follow appropriate channels for expressing concerns and issues.
  • Respond to emails from advisors within 24 hours.
  • Attend and actively participate in any training sessions that occur throughout the academic year.
  • Dress professionally for the hearings.
  • Respect each student as individuals and treat each case as unique.
  • Review all case materials before the hearing. Arrive early to each hearing.
  • Attend all scheduled hearings for which you serve on the board, unless excused prior to the hearing by the advisor for reasons of illness or other emergency, conflict of interest, or concerns about your ability to remain unbiased. Meetings are 3-5 p.m. each Friday throughout the semester.
  • Fully participate in hearings by way of questioning, listening to testimony, making decisions about responsibility, issuing appropriate sanctions, and explaining the rationale for the decisions.
  • Be fair and consistent.
  • Meet and maintain the eligibility requirements for membership on the Peer Conduct Board:
    • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and make satisfactory academic progress toward a degree.
    • Maintain a clear disciplinary record and not be found responsible for any violation of the Code of Conduct while serving as a member of the board.
    • Be currently enrolled as a full-time student.
