One Weekend on Smith Island with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation!

Travel dates: October 15 - October 18, 2026

The trip kicks off with dinner on campus Thursday, October 15; we depart the morning of Friday, October 16 and return the evening of Sunday, October 18. You'll travel by ferry from Crisfield, MD to Tylerton — one of three watermen's communities on Smith Island — and stay at CBF's residential education center, housed in two of the village's original buildings. The program blends the island's culture with the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay, letting you experience a traditional watermen's society where people's livelihoods depend entirely on a healthy Bay.

Expect hands-on field investigations, mud between your toes, and conversations with island residents about the economy, culture, and future of their community. Space is limited, and every participant must bring a signed Health Form on the day of departure.

Contribution of $100.00 helps differ costs of transportation, lodging and food. Scholarships available.

Ground We Share: Bethlehem Farms Immersion

Join us on spring break at Bethlehem farms! In this immersion students will gain firsthand experience with sustainable practices, repairing homes, communities living in the spirit of Dorthy Day's Catholic worker, and nature within Appalachia.

Bethlehem Farms: Bethlehem Farm is a Catholic intentional community located in rural Appalachia, dedicated to transforming lives through service, simplicity, prayer, and community. Rooted in the Gospel, the Farm invites volunteers to live out these cornerstones by engaging in sustainable practices, home repair projects, and shared daily rhythms with the local community.

A Conversation on Human & Civil Rights: Washington D.C.

This immersion will give students a firsthand experience in connecting social justice concerns and approaches to meeting human needs. Students will take a trip to Washington D.C where they will engage in direct service and meet with those advocating for change.
